Phoebe Peck: Marketing Coordinator
We caught up with Phoebe to find out more about her story.
Explain a little about yourself and the role you play in the creative communications industry, e.g. how did you start out in the industry and what has your journey been?
I finished my Marketing Communications degree mid 2017 and I started work at Shingleback in October 2018. My role has included taking over all socials for the company including Facebook, Instagram, our website and EDM’s. This has involved learning on the job how to create content using Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Indesign. My role has evolved to now creating and hosting consumer and trade events here at Shingleback. What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I think a strength of mine is building relationships, so I enjoy liaising with our clients and organising trade and social events here at the cellar door.
What challenges have you faced in the industry and how have you overcome them?
I found it challenging having no background in graphic design to being thrown in the deep end creating content using Adobe programs. Honestly, the major lesson I have learnt is that YouTube can teach you whatever you need to know. We are so lucky to be able to have tutorials and information on the internet readily available to us.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry, particularly young women entering the creative community?
No one really knows what they’re doing 100% of the time so you just do the best you can. Practice makes perfect.
How do you believe the industry could be more accommodating to women?
I think that hiring employees should come down to viewing them as individuals for their strengths and opportunities for growth, not their gender.
