Alice Healy: Photographer
We caught up with Alice to find out more about her story.
Explain a little about yourself and the role you play in the creative communications industry, e.g. how did you start out in the industry and what has your journey been?
I am a freelance photographer and my role is to capture a concept or story through my images. I work with creative teams and directly with clients to discover the perfect photographic approach and style to best represent their brand. I started my career studying an Advanced Diploma in Commercial photography then went on to assist some of Australia’s leading commercial photographers in Sydney. I returned to Adelaide 10 years ago to hone my skills and photographic style behind the camera.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I love that my job allows me to meet and work with so many wonderful people.
What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
As a freelancer, the work can ebb and flow and the biggest challenge for me has been adapting to the quiet times. As a solo operator these times can be isolating and to overcome this I now work in a shared office space. I also make sure to work on personal projects to keep my mind active and creative.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry, particularly young women entering the creative community?
My biggest piece of advice is to be persistent and adaptable, be open to new learnings and change. I think it is also really important to love what you do. Your passion for your work will show in the end results and the service that you provide.
